“Visions of Cuba” Cuban Art exhibit to open at the Gato Building
Friday, February 1st

The Florida Keys Council of the Arts is proud to announce the upcoming show: “Visions of Cuba”, an exhibition of contemporary Cuban Art, curated by Alaen Ledesma Fernandez. An opening reception on Friday, February 1st, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the Historic Gato Building is open to the public. This collective exhibition represents the artwork of more than 50 prominent Cuban artists who now live in cities throughout the world, many of whom attended the ISA, Institud Superior of Art in Havana, and have participated in the Havana Biennial.

This presents a unique opportunity for both the artists and the attendees, in that the Gato Building itself is steeped in Cuban Heritage. Jose Marti gave a historic presentation during his first visit to Key West in 1891, and the building was a originally a Cuban Cigar Factory. “Visions of Cuba” will showcase a variety of community artists, ranging from students to professionals, and promotes the significant cultural connection between Cuba, Key West, the Gato and Artists.

Join us to meet artists, enjoy food sponsored by Eduardo’s Table, wine presented by Key West Food and Wine Festival, and Latin music presented by Mateo on guitar. Free parking is available.

The exhibit is part of the Arts Council’s Art in Public Buildings program, designed to offer an opportunity for artists to exhibit their work beyond a traditional gallery space and enhance the environment of those who work and visit the Gato Building.

This exhibit was sponsored in part by the Florida Keys Council of the Arts, the State of Florida: Division of Cultural Affairs, as well as other supporters. Additional support comes from donations by show visitors. For more information, please call the Arts Council at 305-295-4369 or email info@keysarts.com
