INAUGURAL CELEBRATION OF ART IN PUBLIC PLACES

The Monroe Council of the Arts announces the inaugural celebration of Art in Public Places, Wednesday, October 18, 12:30 p.m., in the Conch Flyer Restaurant at Key West International Airport.

This is a community event:

(1) to recognize the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners for extraordinary vision in sponsoring public art;

(2) to celebrate the Florida Keys artists whose work adorns this distinctive public location; and

(3) to announce the winner of the Key West International Airport Mural Competition, in which several of this community's finest artists competed for the opportunity to paint a mural on the prominent air-conditioning tower at the east entrance to the main terminal building. The winner of
the commission will receive $3,500.

Visitors are invited to follow the ceremony with a self-tour of the permanent and revolving artwork exhibitions on display at the airport, courtesy of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners, the Monroe Council of the Arts, and Key West International Airport.
