1. ARTS IN THE AFTERNOON!
The Monroe Council of the Arts and the A & B Lobster House invite you to attend a premiere fundraising event, Arts in the Afternoon, a champagne lunch and informal lecture, Friday, February 23. Lunch will be served at noon, and the lecture will begin at 12:30. Tickets are $20 per person. "Behind the Scenes on the Three Stages of Live Theater in Key West," a panel discussion by the artistic directors of the Red Barn Theatre, the Tennessee Williams Fine Arts Center Founders Society, and the Waterfront Playhouse, will reveal how plays and cast are selected, how scenery is developed, and how costumes are chosen and produced. 2. FREE WRITERS' RIGHTS WORKSHOP!
The Monroe Council of the Arts will sponsor Intellectual Property Rights for Writers, a workshop by Susan Chaires, Saturday, February 24, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Monroe County Public Library, 700 Fleming St., Key West. The event is free. Ms. Chaires is an intellectual property lawyer in Washington, D.C., and has worked with creative clients throughout the world. She represented sculptor Frederick Hart in the nationally publicized legal action against Warner Bros. that claimed unauthorized use of a sculpture in the movie Devil's Advocate.
3. LONG-AWAITED "DOLPHINS ON PARADE" AUCTIONS!
Our colorful Keyswide Dolphins on Parade will be auctioned off at three gala fundraising events. Participating artists will receive a percentage of the sale price and the balance will help fund Arts Council programs such as Artists in Schools and ArtReach. Mark your calendar! 5. BY MEMBERS' REQUEST: "PHOTOGRAPHING ARTWORK" WORKSHOP!
Barry Fitzgerald will give a special two-day workshop on how to photograph artwork on Saturday, April 14, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., and Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Key West Art Center, 301 Front St. Only $75 to MCAC members! On day one Mr. Fitzgerald will cover basic principles of photography, shooting artwork, and resources for film and equipment. On day two he will critique, evaluate, and discuss your assignments and conduct shoot sessions with a running tutorial and Q&A. This workshop is a must for any artist applying for grants and entering competitions: don't miss this important opportunity to hone your presentation skills!
