The Monroe Council of the Arts is pleased to announce that Key West artist Jenny Zeller is the Monroe County recipient of the 2001 Visual and Media Artist Fellowship awarded by the South Florida Cultural Consortium, of which MCAC is a member.
Ten non-matching fellowships of $15,000 each have been awarded. The Consortium, an alliance of the arts councils of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Martin counties, awarded the fellowships to four visual and media artists from Miami-Dade County, three from Broward County, one from Palm Beach County, one from Monroe County, and one from Martin County. The fellowships are the largest such awards provided by local arts agencies in the United States. The Monroe County award was funded by an anonymous private donor.
The recipients were selected during a two-tier process that included the participation of regional and national arts experts. Selection by the regional panel was anonymous, based solely on the quality of the artists? work as evidenced by slides, videos, or films submitted. An exhibition featuring the works of the ten recipients will be presented at the Palm Beach Institute of Contemporary Art in June 2001.
The SFCC is funded in part with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, the Montgomery Family Trust, and the Boards of County Commissioners of Broward, Miami-Dade, Martin, and Monroe Counties.
