The Florida Keys
Council of the Arts announces the third annual "Art from the
Heart" Art Auction slated for March 12 at the Holiday Isle Resort's
Quarterdeck Room. Money raised from the event will help fund many
of the Council's community programs including grants to individual
artists and cultural organizations.
The cocktail preview
begins at 6:00 p.m. Auctioneer Tom Chasteen will open the live auction
promptly at 7:30 p.m.
Art for the auction is donated by private collectors and area artists
and galleries who give from their hearts to help the arts in Monroe
County. Participating artists so far include Sal Salinero of Gingerbread
Gallery, Tom Grant, Bluewater Potters, C.J. Groth, Deborah Goldman,
Jo Cooper, Art Lovers Gallery, Darlene Cullen, Barbara Vogel, E. Wayne
Smith of Gallery Key West, Carrie Disrud, Thom Joris, Fran Decker,
Julie Joyce, Jim Pierce and Cris Sandifer.
The "Art
from the Heart" auction was inspired by the Council's "Out
of the Closet" Art Auction held in the Lower Keys for 6 highly
successful years. This fundraiser is one of the major events benefiting
the non-profit organization. Donations are tax deductible and artists
receive 50% of the sale price for their work.
The Holiday Isle
resort is located in Islamorada at MM 84. Those wishing to obtain
more information or to make donations of art items should contact
Monica Haskell at 295-4369 or David Cohn at 853-0595.
