Art in Public Places Program

The Art in Public Places (AIPP) program brings visual art into the everyday lives of Florida Keys residents and visitors. It was established by Monroe County ordinance in 2001, which allocates one percent of the construction cost of new county buildings and major restorations to the commissioning of artwork for them. The AIPP committee is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners, and the Florida Keys Council of the Arts serves as its staff.

Since its inception, the AIPP program has placed sculptures, murals, glass installations, and other works of art in courthouses, libraries, fire stations, government centers, and public parks from Key Largo to Key West. Each installation is selected through a competitive process managed by the AIPP committee, ensuring that the artwork is of the highest quality and reflects the unique character of the Florida Keys.

The Florida Keys Council of the Arts oversees the maintenance and conservation of all AIPP installations, working with artists, conservators, and county facilities staff to ensure that these public artworks remain in excellent condition for future generations to enjoy.
