The Council

In loving memory of Jack Baron, 1926-2005

The Council remembered Key West folk artist Jack Baron, who died in 2005, and showed his 2002 painting Key West Banyon Tree.

Jack's exuberant paintings of Key West life and light continue to make us smile. More than a pointillist, he embraced polka dots as an organizing principle in all his paintings.

"There is an overpowering sense of joy that seems to glaze many of his works," said Key West Museum of Art & History at the Custom House Executive Director Claudia Pennington, who mounted his last major show.

We shall miss Jack Baron, one of our favorite Florida folk artists. Jack Baron was 78.
