Cultural Umbrella Application available; free workshops
The Council announced the 2011 Cultural Umbrella funding application, revised and simplified, and three free workshops in Key Largo, Marathon and Key West.

The Florida Keys Council of the Arts is pleased to announce the application for Tourist Development Council Cultural Umbrella funding will be released March 1, 2010. The application will be available on-line at www.keysarts.com or a copy may be picked up at the arts council office, 1100 Simonton Street, #2-263, Key West. Requests for an application package may also be e-mailed to [email removed]. Cultural Umbrella funding is used for the advertising and promotion of cultural events taking place between October 1, 2010 and September 30, 2011. Past recipients of Cultural Umbrella funding include Key West Symphony Orchestra, Sculpture Key West, Waterfront Playhouse, Red Barn Theatre, Marathon Community Theater, the Florida Keys Art Guild, Florida Keys Birding & Wildlife Festival and the FKCC Keys Chorale. This year we proudly announce a completely revised and simpler application. As with any new form, we understand that there will be questions and concerns. The committee and arts council staff is dedicated to ensuring that this transition be as smooth as possible. Please save the date for the workshops below that will cover the application process in detail. We strongly encourage all arts and cultural organizations to send at least one representative to the workshops held in convenient locations in Key Largo, Marathon and Key West. Please RSVP soon, as these sessions will fill up fast. Free workshops on how to complete the application for TDC Cultural Umbrella funding are offered by the Florida Keys Council of the Arts and are scheduled as follows: Monday, March 8, 10:00 a.m., Marathon Community Theatre, 5101 Overseas Hwy., Marathon Monday, March 8, 3:00 p.m., Murray Nelson Gov’t. Center, 102050 Overseas Hwy., Key Largo Tuesday, March 9, 2:00 p.m., Eco-Discovery Center, 35 E. Quay Rd, Truman Waterfront, Key West Pre-registration for these workshops is not required but for planning purposes, is appreciated. The deadline for submitting the application is Monday, May 3rd at 5 p.m. Applications will be reviewed by the Cultural Umbrella committee on May 18, and their recommendations for funding will be forwarded to the TDC and BOCC for final approval.
