Call To Writers
The Council sought two Florida Keys writers, paid $1,000 each, for Culture 2015 magazine articles on staying longer and underwater art.
The Monroe County Tourist Development Council, Tinsley Advertising and the Cultural Umbrella Committee of the Florida Keys & Key West are issuing a call for writers interested in producing articles for the Culture 2015 magazine.
Two Florida Keys writers will be selected and paid a freelance fee of $1,000 each. The fee covers research, writing, related photography and any necessary revising (based on recommendations from the committee) of an article of approximately 1,000-1,200 words. Articles assigned will be factual, informational and primarily designed to introduce visitors to the art, culture and history of The Florida Keys.
The Culture 2015 magazine, an annual publication, is a freestanding magazine distributed to art galleries and chambers of commerce throughout the Keys. It is also the insert in the In Room Concierge in over 3,900 guestrooms within the Keys reaching over 500,000 visitors annually. The publication includes information on the Keys’ performing, literary and visual arts as well as a calendar of events and advertisements.
The selected topics that writers may choose from are:
Stay Down Longer – Content to feature each district throughout the Keys (from Key Largo to Key West) encouraging tourists to stay down longer. This article will highlight the cultural aspects of each district including workshops, classes, nature walks, cultural venues and events
Underwater Artists & Art – This topic includes artists in the Keys who create images of the underwater world. Some examples: Stephen Frink, Tim Rahn, BJ Royster and Kimian. This article might also mention the Underwater Music Festival, various lecture series on underwater wrecks, diving and more.
Submissions must include the following:
Cover letter - propose a title, and rough outline to include the scope of the coverage planned for one
of the above mentioned topics (limit 300 words).
Articles - 3 samples of previously published articles (must be submitted on 8 ½ x 11 paper or pdf)
Qualifications - include resume and brief biographical information which includes how you are qualified to write on the proposed topic.
Applications are due by Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 5:00 pm.
