New public art by Big Pine Key artists Kim and Ian Workman, a fish rubbing collage titled Back Country, was installed at Key West airport

New Public Art recently installed at the Key West International Airport terminal. Local artists, Kim & Ian Workman of Big Pine Key were honored to be among those selected for the progressive and prestigious Art in Public Places program in Monroe County. Their artwork is created using a method based on the traditional oriental art form known as Gyotaku, which is Japanese for fish rubbing. The selected piece entitled "Back Country" is a 6' by 9' collage of fish rubbings on hand-made paper that are adhered onto canvas panels of varied lengths and widths creating a three dimensional underwater effect . This installation is part of the ongoing art projects for the new terminal which will be completed by the end of this summer.
